Audiolab 7000A (Black)
Stereo Amplifier
£1,099
Equally as impressive with digital and analogue sources, the Audiolab 7000A optimises the full potential from all your music.
One amp for all
The Audiolab 7000A is a classic all-rounder with widespread appeal – whatever your taste in music or choice of source. Featuring a 70 watt amplifier, it has ample power for larger rooms and inefficient speakers. A built-in DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor) and phonostage means that you can plug in everything from a computer to a turntable. The compact casing features a new, full colour display with a choice of informative and stylish graphics.
Class-leading sound
With design overseen by Audiolab’s lead engineer, Jan Ertner, the 7000A has all the components required for excellent sound quality. Using their highly regarded CFB (Complementary Feedback) technology, the amplifier is highly stable and thermally efficient, helping to deliver smooth and consistent sound quality – at all volume levels.
The next step up in power
Delivering a punchy 70 watts per channel from its Class AB power amplifier, the 7000A is 40% more powerful than the 6000A model. By spec’ing a substantial 250VA toroidal transformer and quad 15,000uF output capacitors, this amp always has plenty in reserve. With this much current to hand you get extended bass, high volume capability and a full-bodied sound at lower volumes.
Digital connectivity – for PC to CD
Featuring a premium ESS 9038Q2M 32-bit DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor) built-in, the 7000A is an ace with all your digital sources. For the ultimate sound quality, connect your computer via the USB-B and enjoy music file playback up to 32-bit/768kHz PCM and DSD512. There are also two optical and two coaxial connections that are ideal for a CD/DVD player, TV, games console and network streamer. These handle hi-res music files up to 24-bit/192kHz and benefit from selectable digital filters to optimise the sound quality.
HDMI ARC for connecting your TV
Unique to the 7000A amp, there’s also an HDMI ARC interface. This lets you plug in your TV and pull the sound from its inbuilt digital TV tuner(s) and any TV-app based streamers.
MQA and Roon Tested
Featuring full MQA compatibility, the 7000A makes the perfect partner for streaming music services such as TIDAL’s HiFi Plus tier. The format delivers Hi-Res sound without using the bandwidth of conventional file types letting you store more tracks and/or get a more reliable streaming service without buffering when used with lower capacity broadband services. With Roon Tested certification, the 7000A works seamlessly within a Roon multi-platform, multiroom system.
Bluetooth aptX for quality, wireless sound
For high quality, wireless sound, the 7000A is equipped with Bluetooth aptX. Pair with your compatible smartphone, tablet or laptop and enjoy CD-quality sound, wirelessly. Ideal for enhanced sound quality from your premium music services or stored music files, aptX improves on regular Bluetooth with its more detailed and natural sound quality.
Dedicated to your vinyl and headphones
Both the phono input and headphone output are separate, dedicate designs that offer superb performance. The MM (Moving Magnet) phono circuit is a low noise design with precise RIAA equalisation that sets the standard for sound quality at this level. Similarly, the headphone amp has its own current-feedback circuit that optimises the sound quality from a wide range of ‘cans’- even inefficient designs.
Interactive LCD display
The 7000-series features a distinctive, full colour display. The interactive screen displays a wide range of interactive info. Choose between source display, music file quality, left/right VU metres or volume displays. Or, for the least distraction, simply turn the display off.
Enjoy powerful sound, at the heart of your system, with the Audiolab 7000A.

Another Old Steve from
Audiolab’s new challenger, and it works for me.
The 7000A arrived just over a week ago, replacing an Audiolab 8000S from 1998 which was beginning to sound its age. So far I am very happy with it. It’s bi-amping a pair of B&W CDM1SEs with a TAGMcLaren 60P - no issues there.
The onboard phono stage is really good, if perhaps a little quiet - it replaces the Musical Fidelity X-LPS I was using with the old amp. Yes, I am digging out LPs I haven’t played for years, and it’s great. CDs also sounding fine, using the Audiolab’s internal DAC via an optical cable from my old Marantz 63KISig. I have the tv connected using the eARC facility, and that also sounds better than it did via a Cambridge Audio Dacmagic 100 and a long RCA cable. I’m using the limited ARC, just with the ability to change volume with the tv remote. That’s pretty slow, so I stick to the 7000A remote usually. I haven’t used the Bluetooth much, but it works and it’s very convenient being able to send music and internet radio from iPad to amplifier.
My headphones sound good too, although I haven’t used them very much so far.
I haven’t yet attached a laptop to play FLAC and WAV files, but I will do, looking forward to hearing some Bandcamp downloads etc in better quality.
The amp looks and feels solid and functional, and the display is attractive. Loads of connectivity. It’s a shame that I can’t seem to change the source directly from the remote, because it’s a bit of a nuisance having to cycle through 11 sources when I’m only using four of them. That’s the only negative I’ve found so far. Otherwise it’s been an excellent replacement for the old Audiolab.
7000CDT next? I reckon so . . .
