Eye-popping detail - 4K UHD Resolution
Ultra HD 4K resolution gives you four times more detail than Full HD with over 8 million pixels! It delivers a sharper, more life-like picture with richer and more natural colour. It also lets you sit closer to the screen – making it ideal for smaller rooms, too. With the BenQ W1800, you get a crystal-clear 120 inch image, with the projector positioned just 3 metres away.
HDR10 and HLG give stunning realism
This BenQ includes support for HDR10 and HLG. HDR10 is widely used on UHD gaming consoles from Sony and Microsoft. HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma HDR) is a broadcast and user generated standard format that is seen as the standard for transmitting 4K signals.
See the picture exactly as originally intended, with Filmmaker Mode
If you’re mad about movies, you’ll love Filmmaker Mode on this BenQ projector. Designed in collaboration with filmmakers and Hollywood studios, Filmmaker Mode lets you experience the cinematic vision, exactly as the director intended. Overriding the TV’s own motion and picture processing, Filmmaker Mode presents the correct aspect ratio, colour and frame rate – just as the filmmakers intended.
CinematicColor for optimal picture quality
For optimal colour, the W1800 features BenQ’s CinematicColor technology. This tech 100% meets the Rec. 709 HDTV standard for colour accuracy, giving you realistic colour with true-to-life texture and depth. The RGBRGB colour wheel and high contrast deliver crisp images and help maximise the full potential of 4K resolution.
Factory calibrated for out-of-the box colour accuracy
Making sure you get the best from your projector, straight out of the box, the W1800 comes with a factory calibration set-up and report. Using specialist instruments and software, the projector is calibrated and adjusted for precise D65 colour temperature, gamma, black level, white level, neutral grey, RGBCMY colour tracking, hue, saturation, brightness and output. This means a brilliant picture is guaranteed – straight out of the box.
Twin HDMI
With twin HDMI sockets, the BenQ is well equipped to handle your digital sources. Both sockets are compatible with HDCP2.2 (HDMI 2.0b), meaning you can connect up to UHD Blu-ray players and streaming devices and enjoy 4K HDR top quality vision. There’s also a handy USB interface for powering your smart TV device.
Get the very best images on movie nights, with the BenQ W1800.

Reasonable, lovely sharp image with great colors
For the money this is a no brainer, you get 4K HDR with excellent colour reproduction. I upgraded from a W1070 and side by side you can see a big difference in image quality.
Now, this is of course a budget machine and cannot match a high end 4K HDR projector. For starters the 4K is not native, this projector uses a clever DLP trick called pixel shifting which works really well, there is a definite increase in sharpness when watching 4K UHD bluray discs over the 1080p versions. Also don't go expecting too much from the HDR, if like me you also have an OLED TV then there is going to be a noticable difference between the beauty of HDR on an OLED compared to the HDR on this projector. It does a fairly decent job to be honest, there is some improvement in highlights and the image does pop a bit more than with SDR content but just bear this in mind if you are a big fan of HDR. Also the black levels are typically rather poor but for me that has as much to do with all the white walls in my sitting room as much as it has to do with the performace of the projector.
So, despite those flaws Im still giving it 5 stars, why, becuase when you reign in your expectations and appreciate this is a projector that costs around the £1000 mark you get an awful lot for your money. The image really is fantastic, the colours look particularly impressive especially coming from a w1070. There is a lovely cinematic feel to the image, Ive got mine at 120" and sit around 4m away, its awesome, so immersive and engaging. The 4K resolution is lovely when watching a high bit rate UHD Bluray, so sharp and clear. Even watching mostly dark movies like Dune or Blade Runner its still an impressive image despite those greyish black levels, there is still a load of detail in those shadows. I watched Dune at the cinema and honestly I preferd the way it looked at home on this projector.
My large collection of 3D Blurays are still in action thanks to this projector supprting 3D frame packed playback, Ive watched a couple of them and they look great, again a step up in quality from the W1070.
If your into gaming then this projector has a fantastic low latency input, Ive not really tested it, I prefer gaiming on my TV and keeping the projector for special movie occasions.
One last thing to mention are the DLP colour wheel rainbows. I do see them and so does my partner. However it is very dependant on the movie, some are worse than others, but at no point do I find them too much of a distraction and for me I prefer the sharpness of DLP over LCD.
If you're looking for a great and affordable 4K projector that also has a fair go at punching a little bit of HDR into the image then this should definitely be on your shortlist!

Excellent service
I havnt set up the projector yet as I’m still in the build process, but I can say that I received an excellent service from Sheffield branch of Richer sounds. Geoff, came to have a look at my house and answered all my questions and gave advice on what I needed, there was no hard sell at all, he even advised on better system and saved me money.

Excellent picture quality
Service from Richer Sounds was exceptional as always. Rung customer services to talk through my requirements and advice and decided on the W1800.
Installation was a breeze as the throw distance is a like for like swap of the W1070 it is replacing. The one negative is that it doesn't have any vertical lens shift so I have had to slightly angle the pj upwards for now and use 1 step on the keystone. I have a hack of sorts on my pj mount to make it shorter which I'll do at a later date.
The W1800 has Benq's CinematicColor™ for 100% Rec.709 accurate color space and is calibrated at the factory. The step up in picture quality from the w1070 for me is well worth it and I took a picture of the same scene on both for a comparison.
Being HDR compatible the picture has the picture and colours really pop.
When the pj detects a HDR stream it automatically switches to filmmaker mode. This is the only picture setting you can use for HDR viewing and there is a 5 second blank screen as the pj adjusts to the change. A little bit of an annoyance as the streaming starts while you are not seeing any picture but hearing the soundtrack.
Fan noise is quiet, it's noticeable to the point where it can be distracting under normal lamp mode during quiet scenes but I've been using eco mode where it's not. As I have zero ambient light in the room the reduction in brightness is not that big a deal running it in eco mode.
Highly recommend this PJ its perfect for movie nights, broadcast TV, sports and gaming and also Richer Sounds for the quality of service as always.

Budget Home Cinema Monster Bargain
I bought the Benq W1800 to replace my Benq W1070 which has served me well over the last 5-6yrs. I was somewhat skeptical about how much better the W1800 could be considering it's not true 4k. After watching numerous online videos and reading reviews I decided to take the plunge. Straight out of the box the W1800 doesn't disappoint. The jump in clarity and detail is instantly noticeable. The W1800 automatically switches to film maker mode when HDR content is detected. The colours feel really natural and cinematic. The only slight negative Vs the W1070 is that the blacks aren't quite as good and can seem a little washed out, but honestly for just over £1000 it's a minor detail. Rings of Power on Amazon looks stunning on the W1800. I was impressed at just how good it looked. Even old films like The Fifth Element shine in 4K and feel super cinematic. If you're into gaming, PS5 and Xbox Series X look and run amazing. Forza Horizon 5 and A Plague's Take: Requiem are simply mind blowing good. I had a little difficulty getting my PS5 and Series X to work, but after adjusting a few settings on my AV receiver, things worked perfectly. For £1099 The W1800 is simply an amazing budget projector. You really don't need to pay anymore for an amazing home cinema and gaming experience.

Absolutely cinema representation if movies.
Only had for a couple of weeks but the quality is amazing. Projection at 100 inch and 4k is phenomenal. I'm mid installation of surround sound, but the speaker built in is surprisingly adequate to get by.
