Access the DAC with digital inputs
The great new feature with the Roksan Kandy K3 CD DI is the addition of digital inputs. With both optical and coaxial digital inputs you can now plug in your other digital sources and take advantage of the Roksan's superb-sounding DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor). From games consoles to DVD players, pretty much any digital source with a digital output benefits from a substantial upgrade in sound quality.

At the heart of the Roksan K3 CD is the Texas Instruments PCM1798 24 bit/192kHz DAC. This gives superb resolution without sacrificing refinement; bringing music to life without it becoming overbearing. Further enhancing precision and reducing the distortion effects of jitter, the K3 CD DI also features a custom made, high precision Master Clock Crystal. Also making its contribution to the sound quality is the high quality Toroidal transformer with seven fully regulated power rails. This high current power supply ensures the purest, lowest distortion sound possible.
Triple digital outputs including balanced XLR
As well as the regular optical and coaxial digital outputs, the K3 CD DI player also features a balanced AES/EBU output via XLR. This truly professional grade output matches up with other similarly equipped digital amps or DACs for absolute sonic accuracy. In addition to this, the K3 also features gold-plated analogue RCA phono connections for standard amps.

A good player, and speedy delivery.
I have now run this player in for over 50 hrs, (recommended 40-100hrs) and found the internal dac is good, but a separate DAC brings this player to life..I am now comparing this to an Audiolab 8000 cd/DAC set up, from 1997, and the external 8000 DAX has given a better overall sound, and the 8000 CD Transport has the edge on some types of music. The only negatives I find with this player are : I do feel the remote should have more functions, as it is also for the K3 amplifier(also purchased)..you cannot turn off the display, which is fairly bright, and no direct access to tracks in the middle or end of disc, and why does it have an "index" feature within a track?, there is no facility on the player or remote to use it...a good looking player, solidly made, and made in England..paired with the K3 amp and B&W 805 speakers, I am rediscovering some of my favourite cds. Would I recommend this player?, well overall, "Yes" , but use it with a good quality separate DAC, rather than the integrated one..for the true sound of this player..a good buy especially at the VIP price..with a 6 yr guarantee included..speedily delivered, and another great online service from Richer Sounds.

We have a Naim CD player which had started to jump and stutter. The time had come to replace it… a difficult decision as we were attached to it. Should we replace with the same?
Instead we decided to explore what Richer Sounds had to offer. Tested the Arcam, Marantz and two Roksans. All in the comfort of a listening room with CDs we had brought along. Pete was great, no pushy sales pitch, just space to listen unhurriedly. We chose one the Roksan K3, with some anxiety that we might be compromising, as it was less than half the price of the Naim. Took it home and set it up. Wow, really pleased. With our system (Naim amp and Kef Reference speakers) it actually sounds better than our old Naim CD player. Surprised too, that when we came to pay that there was a £200 markdown for some reason, so left feeling very happy. Great support from Pete,

Bought a few weeks ago, one stopped working but other was more than fine, now have replacement so back to bi amping, got them to replace old Audiolab power amps, at half price I couldn't resist, as I love the Roksan turntable I got at richer sound Plymouth, I'm back in love with my music, Metal, Country Rock and folk, Manowar Blow your speakers, brothers Osborne, and Blackmore's knight, wow, RS BOSTIN service from Josh, Jamie, and the crew xxx

Bought this last month as my Pioneer UDP 800 gave up the ghost after 5 years and cannot be fixed. This review is therefore comparing the Roksan with the Pioneer which is slightly unfair as the Roksan was £899 not £2000. First thing I noticed was the difference in build quality, the pioneer was heavy and solidly constructed, the CD tray was silent in operation where as the Roksan seems noisy and flimsy. Comparing the sound the Roksan has a warmer sound with a bit more bass but less detail and a narrower soundstage. I did listen to several players (though they do sound very different in your home compared to a listening room) and personally think the Roksan is one of the best in the £1000 - £1500 price range and at Richer Sounds £899 is a bargain, but considering the Pioneer was primarily a Blu-ray player it will be sadly missed as my music source.

Breath-taking
I purchased a Roksan K3 CD Di on the recommendation of Tom, the sales assistant in Cardiff. I had a Marantz CD player, and although ok to listen to with my K3 amplifier, I never felt engaged with the music, more like listening to the radio or tv. He told me of the audio qualities of the player but said it may not be a night and day different but it will be an improvement overall. HE LIED. After just s few hours listening to several cd's I'd wished I had purchased one long ago. The difference was truly amazing, better than night and day, the soundstage was much larger and I felt I could touch the artists because everything was so clear and defined. I would recommend the cd player to anyone looking to upgrade, or a first time buyer.

Excellent Quality!
My Arcam CD player, fmj cd36, which had performed excellently, gave up the ghost after 15 years. I encountered problems trying to have it repaired and was glad that this was the case. I bought the Roksan K3 CDi machine. The Arcam machine was, when produced, one of the finest CD machines available and I was somewhat sceptical that the Roksan would match it.
In fact, it excelled in all aspects of the sonic spectrum. I enjoy both Jazz and Classical music. With the classical material the orchestral detail is well-delineated and instruments are finely placed across the spectrum and even possess a three dimensional characteristic, well superior to the performance of my original Arcam machine.
The Arcam machine had a frequency range from 1.5Hz to 20kHz and the Roksan is 20Hz to 20kHZ but the dynamics of the Roksan are far more imposing. Of course the range of human hearing is around 20Hz to 20kHz so I suppose the result is not necessarily surprising.
Listening to Jazz the Roksan is, quite frankly, amazing. Oscar Peterson’s “Exclusively For My Friends” classic albums, recorded by master sound engineer Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer in the living room of his house, puts you in the audience.
Of course the quality of the output from the Roksan also depends on the other audio equipment. I used Quad amplification and TDL Studio Reference loudspeakers. The disadvantage is that poor recordings are more easily discernible but that’s a small price to pay.
