This Aventage AV receiver boasts exceptional construction quality. Anti-Resonance Technology (ART) makes this AVR exceptionally resistant to mechanical and electrical interference. ART encompasses a more rigid chassis, anti-vibration construction and even a fifth damping foot, helping give the RX-A2A its superb detail and resolution. With a punchy 100 watts of power (at 8 ohms), the RXA2A is powerful enough for larger rooms and all speaker types.
High Slew Rate Amplifier for dynamic sound
High Slew Rate amplifiers are difficult to implement, but when engineered with Yamaha’s usual thoroughness, achieve superb results. Especially suitable for Hi-res audio sources, the RX-A2A’s amp provides a crisp, dynamic sound.
Dolby Atmos and DTS:X for three-dimensional sound
Dolby Atmos and DTS:X use ceiling or up-firing speakers for three-dimensional and fully immersive sound. Whether it’s rain falling in a tropical jungle or the intense sound of overhead gunfire, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X put you in the centre of the action. DTS Neural:X offers an even more immersive sound, with a heightened sense of realism.
Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization for extra height, without the speakers*
As impressive as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X sound, it’s not always possible to accommodate the extra speakers. Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization technology goes some way to help. Play any Dolby format and enjoy a more immersive sound with virtual height enhancement – using your existing speakers to deliver an enhanced sound. *via firmware update.
Compatible with the next generation of high resolution – 8K*
Featuring a trio of 8K compliant HDMI inputs and matching output, this Yamaha AVR is ready for the next generation of TV. If you’ve not yet made the jump to 8K TV, the sockets also handles up to 4K/120Hz signals, for the highest quality pass through. Upscaling to UHD 4K is also standard. *via firmware update.
Supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+*
Using a 7/1 (in/out) HDMI interface, the RX-A2A supports your full system. It also supports a wide range of High Dynamic Range video formats. These include Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG. It also supports HDR10+, which enhances picture realism by sending dynamic Meta data to your TV. *via firmware update.
The latest HDMI support also marks a big improvement in gaming. 4K/120Hz and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support maximise resolution and clarity. Quick Frame Transport (QFT) and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) help eliminate lag and frame tearing, giving you a smoother, more responsive gaming experience. *via firmware update.
Surround sound, untied
For an easy way to reduce cabling, the RX-A2A offers the option of wireless rear speakers. Combine this receiver with the Yamaha MusicCast 20 or MusicCast 50 speakers and you can leave aside speaker cable connections. Perfect if you have a solid floor and struggle to hide speaker cable or if you simply want a cleaner style, wireless surround speakers cut down on the clutter.
Connect more – including a turntable
As well as seven HDMI inputs, this Yamaha AVR also has a wide range of other AV connectivity. Optical coaxial digital inputs are ideal for connecting older devices or upgrading the sound from a compatible CD/Network player. Three analogue inputs are perfect for Hi-Fi components, with the dedicated MM phono input perfect for plugging in a turntable. The Zone 2 output gives you the option of adding a second pair of speakers in another room.
MusicCast for music all around your home
The Yamaha RX-A2A is part of Yamaha's hugely impressive network audio system, MusicCast. With MusicCast you control all your compatible Yamaha MusicCast products via your smartphone or even Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant by voice*. Play the same music on all the components or split the sound into different zones for different moods in each room; the choice is yours. The MusicCast CONTROLLER app lets you operate the system around your home and change settings quickly and easily. *requires third party Alexa or Google device.
Stream the best music services
Compatible with Amazon Music, Spotify Premium, Pandora, Napster, Tidal, Deezer and Qobuz, the RXA2A is fully equipped for your favourite music streaming service. With Tidal and Qobuz already offering higher resolution playback, it’s now possible to find a streaming service that at least matches the quality of CD and, in some cases, even improves upon it.
Advanced networking including Apple AirPlay and Bluetooth
As well as MusicCast, the RX-A2A is also compatible with Apple AirPlay 2, letting you stream music from your Apple iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad or other compatible Apple device, wirelessly, around your home. Just ask Siri where you want the music to play. For a quick and easy connection with your smartphone, use the Bluetooth connection for easy music streaming.

Rated 5 out of 5 by AlexWoods from Superb !!! I bought the RX-A2A to replace my old Yamaha DSP-A5, which was starting to fail after many years of loyal service. Connecting it up was easy although the speaker connections are quite small, close together and fiddly compared to the DSP-A5. Set-up is through an on-screen user interface and I found it quite slow to respond, although this is not a big problem for me because it is not something that I would use every day. Once connected to my home network, the amplfier performed a firmware update which took 15 minutes or so, and went smoothly. My first impressions are good - aesthetically speaking, the piano black fascia looks gorgeous (and matches my B&W CM9's nicely). Some reviews have criticised the build quality, but I feel it is comparable to that of the DSP-A5. Most importantly, the sound is detailed and well controlled, dialogue is crisp and there is plenty of power available when the soundtrack demands it. It is streets ahead of my old amp, but that's 15 years of progress! Richer Sounds did a fantastic job with the delivery - I ordered it on a Friday with an expected delivery day of the following Monday - but they then delivered it 2 days early on the Saturday. It's almost as if they knew how excited I'd be to get my hands on it! Particular thanks to Patrick (Cheltenham store) for his knowledge, advice and painstaking research into my requirements.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Alex_456 from Good Amp with irritating Niggles My Budget Yamaha receiver was on its last legs, so was in the market for a new AVR fully equipt with the latest features and could perform sound wise on par with my previous Yamaha (RV381D). First, I tried the Denon AVR S760H which was (at the time of writing this) relatively new so assumed it would be a safe bet, however for TV viewing (Sky Q, Netflix) the sound was perfectly acceptable, however when using the Phono inputs for my Technics SL1500, I found stereo sound very disappointing, flat, dull, a lack of treble. After many different settings tried, I returned the amp and was recommended to try the Marantz Cinema 70S, what a stunning amp and for TV viewing the sound was superb, it looked the business and felt like a premium receiver, however like the Denon stereo listening was again a real let down which to be quite honest I was very disappointed but for the cost, I could not accept and live with the amp especially when my old budget £350 amp sounded better. My last shot was this Yamaha, I would have gone for the model down the R6, however I didn't like the rounded edges of the receiver, and so far, so good, my turntable has come alive again and sounds just like my old budget amp, but better, so sound wise I am very happy with it, and also watching Sky Sports UHD through it, I don't get the annoying delay flicking between UHD and HD channels which I was experiencing on the Denon & Marantz. The drawbacks however, and the main one is the this amp and the models below it cannot output Dolby Vision, reading online this is a well known fault and a big fix is being waited on to solve it, but currently my Nvidia Shield cannot do Dolby Vision, the screen just goes blank which for a £900 amp, I would of expected this to not be an issue, especially as the A2 has been out for a good while. Other minor niggles are having to manually switch between Surround Sound decoder when watching Sky, to 2 channel stereo when listening to music either through Sky, You tube or my turntable, the Marantz would do this automatically with no need to mess. My last current irritation is using the ARC function on the amp, currently if I am using my turntable, I have the video output set to Sky Q, but whenever you press the home button to go on the tv guide whilst listening to a record, it switches the input to Sky Q automatically. Again all the above niggles I feel for an amp of this cost, shouldn't be an issue, however on the flip side it sounds very good on all the inputs I have going through it and ultimately sound is king.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TChat from Yamaha AVs are a different league! Bought YAMAHA RX-A2A to replace my 4 year old Sony STR-DN10180. Sony AV did a good job and was great value for money. Since they haven't launched an upgrade yet, I was looking for a replacement to upgrade. Did lot of research, shortlisted the new Denon range as a suitable replacement. But as soon as I discoved the Yamaha range (thanks to online research coupled with Paul (@Cambs Richer Sounds), learnt about its history, the reviews, particularly for the Aventage range, I knew Yamaha was going to be my next buy. Unfortunately, A4A is too big in terms of depth, which meant I had to settle for A2A. I got lucky as only 1 unit of A2A was available in the wider RS stock n/w. Paul promptly blocked it for me by calling the Maidstone store. I've been using it for past couple of weeks, and its brilliant. I can hear so much more detail from Bower Wilkins M-1 (5.1) speaker setup. Just don't look elsewhere, get the Aventage range from Yamaha, it is the best!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Klonga from Surpassed expectations A real professional bit of kit that i will in no doubt NOT use to its full potential but it's opened up my ears to new experience. It's automated features in switching off enhancements for my record player, to switching then back on to Atmos 7.1 are exactly what I was after from a bit of kit. It has so many features that are way passed my understanding. Yamaha musiccast is excellent and linking to smart devices works really well. I would highly recommend a decent sub with it as well as using the YPAO which is very useful for noobs like me. It is an expensive bit of kit for home entertainment and I'm not sure how much of an upgrade is is from the 6 series apart from nah e the Aventage badge, still a happy bunny though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Daft Dave from Fantastic sound from Yamaha RXA2A I purchased this kit in November this year as I already have a Yamaha DSP 5 and have been impressed by the sound quality, this is another product that will blow your socks off, one thing I will say is your TV needs to be able to support this amp.
