The X factor
Replacing the PTFE insulation with high performance XLPE (Cross Linked Polyethylene) improves the performance of this already impressive cable. As used in their high-end Signature XL cable, XLPE outperformed PTFE in listening tests. Superior insulation reduces interference, giving a smoother, more natural sound with enhanced detail.
OdysseyX taken to the next level
Chord EpicX uses the same conductors as Chord OdysseyX but with a high frequency combination shield and translucent jacket. The shielding brings significant improvements right across the frequency range. There is 'space' around individual instruments and the timbre of instruments is 'true to life'. Strings sound more realistic; likewise, pianos have great definition and an easy to follow rhythm.
The shielding difference
Fitting effective shielding to speaker cable can make a noticeable difference. The reduction in background noise means that very fine tonal information is easily heard. This brings improvements not only to the high frequency performance of a system, but also the bass and mid frequencies.

A couple of steps up over Rumour X level of cable
I own a pair of Dali Rubicon 5 speakers which are very difficult to drive. Epic X have twice the thickness of silver plated copper than the Rumour X plus they are shielded so the signal that leaves the amplifier; reaches the speakers without interference from all the RF passing over the cables.
My mrs heard the difference straight away. If you own speakers or an amp that cost more than a grand good cables are a must.

epic cables
purchased epic cables a few weeks ago, a very noticeable upgrade from the shawline cables, the sound more realistic with punch and clarity not heard on lesser cables, a more interesting listen whatever you play back, now run in, the bass does not dominate sound in my small room ., very pleased worth the expense..

Upgraded to the Chord EpicX from a set of off the shelf QED cables. Difference in sound is spectacular, so much brighter with a deep bass. having been a bit of a philistine on the difference cables make I have been simply blown away by the improvement. Very glad John talked me into spending a bit more than I was thinking but his advise, as always, was spot on

A great improvement
I had previously been sceptical about cable upgrades but felt it worth a go in this case as I had set things up with the need for long speaker cables (10m), hence the need for good ones. My temporary setup had used rather cheap cables, so this was a significant jump. I looked at other less expensive options but decided to take the plunge. These are really excellent quality and with the factory fitted plugs. The sound has improved very noticeably indeed. I have a CA851N connected to a CA651W and MA Platinum 100 speakers. I changed the interconnect from streamer to amp first (see separate review) and then a couple of weeks later did the speaker cables. The sound improvement was very obviously in two steps and the final result is better than I had imagined. The complete sound is just more refined and sweet and a pleasure to listen to. I recommend looking at cable upgrades as a possible alternative to just changing the electronics. These were expensive but I will be listening to them every day for years.
