Marantz PM7000N (Black)
Network Stereo Amplifier
£649
”An entertaining just-add-speakers stereo streaming system.” ’What Hi-Fi?’ 2021 award-winner.
A top quality amp that happens to be a first-rate streamer, too
At the heart of the PM7000N is a top quality amplifier that’s powerful enough for larger rooms but detailed enough for all music lovers. This is matched by a versatile network streamer that covers a huge range of options. These include Bluetooth, wi-fi, AirPlay 2, Internet radio, HEOS, Spotify Connect, Tidal, Deezer plus much more. You can even operate the amp with voice control – via Alexa, Google and Siri.
Putting quality sound first
Despite all its features, the PM7000N amplifier uses quality components for a graceful sound. This high-end Marantz amp uses a discrete current feedback design with Marantz's own HDAM SA3 and SA2 amplifier modules. Usually reserved for much more expensive models, these op-amps use surface-mount metal-film resistors for greater temperature stability. The upshot is a cleaner, less distorted sound, whatever the volume.
Hi-Res music compatible
The quality sound continues with the choice of internal DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor). Using the highly rated Asahi-kasei AK4490EQ chipset, the PM7000N is able to stream Hi-Res 192kHz/24 bit signals through all its digital inputs. Connect via the USB and the PM7000N also decodes DSD files up to 5.6MHz.
Room-filling power
Using a large toroidal power transformer and high value output capacitors, the Marantz PM7000N produces an effortless 60 watts per channel. This is ample for larger rooms and is ideal for getting the best from even the most inefficient speakers. If you feel your current system isn’t making the most of your speakers, then try this and hear just what they’re capable of.
Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, DLNA and built-in wi-fi for the complete networking experience
With both Bluetooth and AirPlay 2 connectivity, it's easy to connect all your smartphones, tablets and compatible lap/desktops and stream music wirelessly. The PM7000N also comes with wi-fi, Internet radio and DLNA. Simply connect to your home network via Ethernet or wi-fi and access thousands of Internet radio sites via vTuner as well as subscription services such as Spotify Connect (Premium Spotify account required), Tidal, Deezer and Amazon Prime Music. DLNA compatibility lets you stream from other sources such as your laptop or NAS drive.
Voice control via Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri devices
For the latest in smart home tech, Marantz have made the PM7000N compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri devices. Simply download the HEOS Home Entertainment Skill app and then just ask Alexa or the Google Assistant to perform basic functions. Using the Apple Home App, Siri voice control from your Apple iOS device brings added functionality over AirPlay 2 – including grouping devices.
HEOS built-in - for the finest multi-room audio
HEOS multi-room music systems connect together by dual-band Wi-Fi, making them easy to set up with your existing home network. Up to 32 HEOS units can be set up at one time, ensuring even the largest of homes are covered for multi-room music. With HEOS already built-in, the PM7000N is ready to go as a single 'zone' without any further adaptors.
Control it all with the HEOS app
Once you've set up your HEOS speaker system, you can stream music effortlessly via the dedicated HEOS app. Available for Apple iOS, Android and Amazon Kindle, the app not only lets you stream your stored music but also Internet radio services and popular streaming services such as Spotify, Tidal, Napster and Deezer.
Connect it all – including a turntable
For wide-ranging compatibility, the PM7000N features a raft of digital and analogue inputs. The USB-A interface is ideal for connecting a USB media device, with twin opticals and a coaxial digital input on hand for your TV, games console, CD player or other digital-out device. Three analogue inputs are perfect for hi-fi components, with the dedicated MM phono input ideal for plugging in a turntable.
For the highest quality in network streaming, just add speakers.

Ultimate streaming Amplifier
Wanted to upgrade my ageing system for a while and after some weeks of research, narrowed it down to the Marantz..Visited the Hull Branch and after speaking to Paul the Manager he confirmed this Amp would be the one to go for and he wasn't wrong..it sounds superb via CD's, cassettes and even Bluetooth sounds great..It's a quality piece of kit and with the 6 year warranty it was a no brainer..Highly recommended..

This is great versatile network amplifier
I’ve been playing for a good free hours with the various bits I’ve hooked up to this amp now and the pleasure is increasing. The phono stage is very nicely balanced not just a shoe horn in. The overall sound for all inputs is very easy on the ear with some punch and liveliness in the sound when you need it. The various control interfaces work very well and it’s a breeze to set up. I can tell I’m going to have many enjoyable hours of listening and viewing (the tv is connected too)

Great little amp with many features..
So once its burned in for 10+ hours it starts to come in to its own. Very warm sounding with clear top end and weighty lows. The mids are very forward. For the price it is an exceptional amp...

Apocalyptically bad user interface
Sounds great, has some good features, but it's WAY past its sell-by date. The interface is like stepping back in time. Cumbersome, counter-intuitive and generally painful to use, the Marantz PM7000N's interface was probably outdated when it was first released.
Want to browse through the radio channels and pick a station? You'll need the manual.
Want to find the random station you were listening to yesterday? Get your tarot cards out.
Even setting it up is like pulling teeth. Wearing boxing gloves.
Entering your wi-fi password is like sending a text message in 1999. I should have taken that as a sign and returned the Marantz PM7000N within 14 days. But I bought it during the post-covid chip shortage, it was in stock and I needed a new amp. And I'm an idiot.
To be fair to Marantz, with time and practice, you could probably get your head round the controls. But it's so hard to fathom, the simple act of using the Marantz PM7000N is a painful reminder of all the poor life decisions you made leading up to your moment of purchase. Or maybe that's just me?
Either way, it just sits in the corner of the lounge, silently mocking my hi-fi choices, or clicking in judgement when it turns on automatically with the television. (Which is, admittedly, a good feature.)
I beseech you, don't be like me. Do your research and find something that reflects the fact it was designed in the post-smartphone era.

Detail, Power and Functionality In Spades
Excellent way to do everything in one unit. Only issues are that the bluetooth codec seems a little out of date, phono stage is lovely sounding, but needed extra gnd wire connected to underneath 24v motor on Rega Planar 6 to get rid of buzzing. BUT THAT'S IT. Tidal streaming, CDs and Records all sound excellent and the power to drive speakers to a hefty level is a nice bonus. It feels like you get an awful lot of fun for the money.

Looking Good
I bought a Marantz PM7000N 10 days ago as a replacement for my 20 something year old Sony Amp which was showing its age. I chose it having read the reviews from various websites and my experience of owning a Marantz CD player. Installation was straightforward with my wi-fi details being picked up from my iPad. Connectivity to my iTunes library is excellent via Apple Airplay. I use the Radio.net app to access Internet Radio as the HEOS App is somewhat limited in this respect. The improvement in the sound quality over the Sony is quite noticeable and the ability to stream music and speech is great.
