Fully automatic design
With its fully automatic design, the Pro-Ject A1 is the ideal turntable for fuss-free playback. Simply select the speed – 33 or 45 – then select ‘start’ and let the tonearm and motor do their thing. At the end of the record, the tonearm lifts and returns to its rest. You can skip tracks by using the manual lift as you would with a manual turntable.
High quality design
By using a high quality, mechanical mechanism, the A1 doesn’t suffer from the sound degrading compromises of other, electronically controlled fully automatic decks.
Vibration resistant construction
With anti-resonant materials used throughout, the A1 gives smooth, low distortion sound. Featuring a wooden plinth, damped metal platter and silicon-damped feet, the A1 has what it takes to resist vibrations that can afflict the sound and, at worst, even cause the stylus to skip.
Another handy feature with the A1 is a built-in phonostage (also known as a phono pre-amp). This means you can wire the deck up to any hi-fi system with an ‘AUX’ input. Alternatively, the A1 can still be wired into a phono input, just as with any other deck.
Ortofon OM10 cartridge supplied
Part of the standard package includes a pre-fitted Ortofon OM10 cartridge. Highly regarded, this quality budget cartridge gives a smooth, detailed sound that’s at home with all types of music. As part of the Optimum Match (OM) range, the stylus is upgradable to 20, 30 and 40 models, giving plenty of scope for future upgrading.
Premium interconnect cable included
Unlike most hi-fi components, the A1 is supplied with a good quality interconnect, straight out of the box. The Connect-IT E phono cable features semi-symmetrical construction with substantial shielding, meaning it rejects electrical interference, reducing the chances of audible hum and buzz. 24k gold-plated plugs give a low resistance connection for the best transfer of sound.
Take the hassle out of vinyl playback, with the Pro-Ject A1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Vulcan 88 from Good choice I purchased this item to replace a 1980 Technics turntable, and I am pleased with the choice. Sound is good and product is easy to operate, but compared to the Technics I would describe it as semi-automatic. Probably most modern automatics would fall into this category though?. Does not appear to be very robust, but this is probably not the case.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Mike of Bromley from Pro-ject A1 should be avoided. I have had two Pro-Ject A1 and both had fundamental faults. On the first the arm bounced an inch into the LP when the arm was lowered. This was returned to Richer Sounds who returned it to the distributor. After some three or four weeks a replacement was supplied that was supposed to be new. On this one the arm jumps tracks some 1 inch from the centre of he recorded area. From my experience the Pro-ject A1 is very poor quality and if I could give it 0 stars I would do so.

Rated 5 out of 5 by mge70 from Perfect balance of quality and convenience We have been looking at new turntables for quite some time since our son took 'his' turntable to Uni... I've always been after a Project turntable, but my wife was never keen on the idea of lifting the needle onto the record - the A1 offers the perfect compromise. It's currently paired with an older Ruark R2 and sounds GREAT, but will migrate to a beefier R3 very soon. Suffering a little noise as I don't have a ground connection on the R2, but doesn't distract from a new listening pleasure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by The great procrastinator from Songs from the big chair! Finally, after a year of procrastination we finally bought ourselves a new turntable. And what a choice. I haven’t been able to listen to some of my records in this quality for almost thirty years! Wonderful sound. Great looks good price. Quiet in operation, solid. Oozes quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by billymclennan from Great turntable to revisit my vinyl Bought this just over a week ago, plays pretty much straight from the box. Tried it with the in built pre amp and also on the phono stage on the Marantz amp I bought as well. Preferred to switch off the pre amp.

Rated 4 out of 5 by MDH999 from Good sound, questionable build quality. Pros: Setup is easy. Decent cartridge. Decent sound quality. The switchable pre-amp is a bonus. Cons: Build quality is not as good as the price indicates it should be. Felt mat rather than the usual soft rubber. Tone arm weight and bias doesn't appear to be adjustable. Switches feel cheap. Grinding noise coming from beneath platter while it is getting up to speed. I know this a budget turntable but I expected better build quality especially given that it is allegedly built in Germany.
