Focused on sound quality. Pure and simple
Putting engineering excellence above ‘bells and whistles’, the Pro-Ject Primary E is designed for the best sound quality at its price. The deck features a high quality 230 volt motor for smooth running. The main bearing is made from stainless steel and runs within a Teflon-coated bronze bushing. This type of engineering quality is usually reserved for much more expensive decks and helps give the Primary E its class-leading sound quality.
A winner made better
Already a multi-award-winner, the Primary E now uses a totally revised motor for purer sound. Out go the old plug-based power supply and 9v motor to be replaced by a superior, directly connected 230v motor previously used in higher spec Project decks. Without an external power supply and the necessary processing, the new Primary E offers a low distortion, and extremely stable sound.
Despite offering genuine hi-fi sound, the Primary E is designed for ease of use. From unboxing, all that's needed is for the platter to be placed on the bearing, the belt attached, the stylus guard removed and you're good to play. Both cartridge and counter weight are already fixed so there's no need for complicated adjustments.
Factory-fitted Ortofon cartridge
This deck comes pre-fitted with a top-brand Ortofon OM 1S cartridge. Giving smooth, natural sound quality, the OM 1S tracks smoothly and sounds musical. As part of the Optimum Match (OM) range, the stylus is upgradable to 5, 10, 20, 30 and 40 models, giving plenty of scope for future upgrading.
Simple is best
In a classic case of form following function, the Project Primary E offers effortless style through its pared down minimalism. Unlike like some, though, it’s not so pared back that it doesn’t feature a lid – a smart acrylic lid is standard with the Primary E.
The ideal starter turntable, the Project Primary E is still the perfect introduction to vinyl seduction.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Bk21 from Great service great record player! Bought as a birthday present for my dad, and he absolutely loves it! The staff in store were really helpful and spent ages helping me choose the right one, and were happy to explain things to a turntable novice like me. The sound quality is great and the turntable was really easy to set up. I definitely recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JamesZ from Simple and stylish This is my first proper turntable. I bought it based on a Which review. I was looking for a no-frills turntable with good sound reproduction, and that's what this item provides.

Rated 4 out of 5 by The Juggler from It's not rocket science., thank heavens. I was looking for something basic, no frills, no bells, no whistles and this is exactly what the Primary-E is. It does what I wanted it to, play albums and it does it really well. Good sound and easy to use, once set up. There are a couple of niggles. Fitting the drive belt was a bit awkward, especially for someone who struggles with arthritis. A groove in the turntable, to slot the belt into, would make life a lot easier. You also need to be careful removing an album because you can catch the belt and pull it off, which then means fitting it again. Experience, however, is a good bedfellow. The Primary E is also very light, compared with my previous Denon and, at first, slid around a little. However, once sited it seems to have settled. It is fully manual but being an old hippy that is not a problem. Four stars is underrating the deck and 4.5 would be nearer the mark. So far, I am more than pleased with my purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by timw42 from Great turntable for the price I bought this on behalf of my Dad who needed a new turntable to play his old vinyl collection. A solidly build deck and simple operation. No facility to play 78 records, but I understand that new turntables don't have this feature. Good, well-rounded sound - used in combination with Cambridge Audio AXA35 Amplifier and Wharfedale Linton Speakers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ErikJ from An excellent starter hifi turntable This turntable is the bare minimum, but in the best way possible! It was easy to set up and connect to my amp, the stylus seems good quality and all part seem easily replaceable from the manufacturer. The only thing is it's plastic body which can be expected at this low price. The delivery box was suitably packed and there was not damage, and speedy delivery despite choosing free shipping.
