With most hi-fi amplifiers, the built-in headphone amplifier is usually something of an afterthought. Certainly if you have a pair of quality headphones and/or use your ‘phones often, then it’s well worth getting a dedicated amplifier, such as the Sennheiser HDV820. With its use of high performance components, the HDV820 offers a level of detail and staging that standard headphone amps can’t hope to match. A quality volume control not only offers precise volume but also ultra-low levels of distortion. At the rear of the unit you’ll find a five-stage gain control. This optimises playback, whatever the impedance of your headphones.
Much more than a headphone amp – it’s a quality DAC, too
With a built-in ESS Sabre32 DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor), you can connect your digital input sources without the need for a separate DAC. A choice of coaxial, optical and USB inputs ensures connection with PC, laptop, Blu-ray/DVD/CD player and pretty much any source with a digital output. The XLR balanced analogue output also means you can connect up to a suitable amplifier, such as the Cambridge Audio Azur 851A, and use the HDV820 as a standalone DAC.
Pro connectivity
With a wide range of different types of sockets, you can connect most headphones to this amp. XLR3, XLR4 and 4.4mm Pentaconn sockets are perfect for the growing number of balanced output headphones. A high quality 6.35mm socket is also available for standard headphones. At the rear, both RCA phono and XLR-3 inputs are available for connecting up to your amplifier or music source. For digital sources there’s optical, coaxial and USB.

A precision built, anodized casing not only looks and feels good but also offers protection from electrical and mechanical interference. Wonderful Sennheiser Headphone Amp
This is an upgrade from the 600 I had. Sound quality is as excellent as I hoped for. Clarity of vocals and natural sound of instruments is superb.Thoroughly enjoying my new purchase.

Absolute purity of sound
Extremely well engineered with an assorted choice of both digital and analog inter-connections. The clarity and definition of sound with playback of CD's that I had bought in the 1980-90's is extremely good and extends new life into recordings that I had thought were needing upgraded.
When used connected to the Sennheiser HD 800 S headphones, the results are simply astonishing with a whole new world of detail of clarity that I had never experienced before.

Wonderful Sound !!
I am totally made up with my new equipment , I've always listened to music which is one of my main passions but having this new set up and with Superb Sennheiser Headphones i am experiencing music the way it should be !
