Derived from its flagship 9000-series, the D9 showcases Audiolab’s ultimate engineering expertise, delivering stunning sound quality. Featuring ESS’s ultimate ‘PRO’ chipset and extensive Audiolab circuit enhancements, the D9 offers true reference quality sound. Thanks to an extensive range of connectivity, it’s also supremely system versatile, too. Flagship DAC for sensational sound quality
Incorporating the ES9038PRO eight-channel DAC, digital to analogue processing extracts the maximum information possible, for incredibly detailed and lifelike sound. Using four channels for the left signal and four for the right, distortion sinks to astonishingly low levels. Proprietary clock and power supply circuitry lifts the DAC’s performance further, which, along with a Class-A post-DAC active filter, ensures sound that’s not just accurate but also musically flowing, too.
Circuits tuned for the very best sound
As Audiolab’s ultimate DAC, the D9 benefits from all its high-end tech. Top-grade components and a differential balanced circuit design achieve maximum signal purity, meaning that even the most subtle musical details are faithfully reproduced. An oversized 40VA toroidal power transformer provides clean and consistent power, while discrete ultra-low-noise regulators provide power separately to the left and right channels for each stage of the DAC process. The end result is sound quality that’s not just transparent and faithful but fun and musical, too.
High resolution support via USB
If you make regular use of Hi-Res Audio music files, you’ll find the D9 caters for your every need. Capable of handling PCM files up to 32-bit/768kHz and DSD512 via USB, it’s capable of reproducing studio-grade sound. The D9 is also compatible with MQA recordings and is certified Roon Tested for use in a Hi-Res Audio, multi-component system.
Upsampling and five filter settings for personalised sound
For a boost in sound from lower quality recordings, you can upsample the audio data to 352.8kHz or 384kHz. While this won’t sound as good as a native recording at this standard, it can extract a more detailed and revealing sound. For further personal tuning, there are five DAC filter settings, letting you tune the sound to sharper or warmer settings.
Connect inputs via Bluetooth
For easy, wireless streaming from your smartphone or tablet, simply pair with the D9 via Bluetooth. Compatible with aptX HD and LDAC formats, you get the potential for high quality wireless music streaming – perfect for streaming your favourite music streaming services via your phone.
Supports asynchronous USB
In addition to wireless Bluetooth connectivity, there are also AES3/EBU, twin coaxial and optical digital inputs – perfect for a CD transport, network music streamer, TV and more. These five digital inputs ensures that every system component enjoys the benefit of better sound through the DAC. For the best interface with your computer and USB media devices, the D9 also features USB-B and USB-A inputs. The asynchronous USB-B input controls your computer's audio output stage for even lower levels of jitter and the ultimate in Hi-Res Audio sound.

As well as all of the above input connectivity, the D9 features a wide range of outputs. For regular hi-fi systems there are RCA phonos, or studio-grade, balanced XLRs if your amp has them. The analogue outputs can be set to fixed or variable, with a dedicated volume control setting the gain – ideal when paired with active or powered speakers. For looping the digital signal onwards or digital recording systems, there are also coaxial and optical digital outputs.
Interactive LCD display
The interactive LCD screen displays a wide range of interactive info. Choose between input selection, format data, track information, left/right VU metres or volume displays. If you prefer, the display can be simplified, dimmed or turned off altogether.
