Five decades after the BBC first commissioned a small monitor speaker that could be used in its outside broadcast vans, the LS3/5A design has become something of a legend within hi-fi circles. Since its inception fifty years ago, there have been many variations, manufactured by a wide number of companies, but all stuck to the same principle – the most accurate sound possible, especially in the crucial mid-range.
Redefines the standard
The latest and possibly greatest within this illustrious line of LS3/5A inspired speakers is the Harbeth P3ESR XD. Harbeth have been making the P3ESR variation since 2012, but this ‘XD’ version moves the game on further still. Using its exclusive RADIAL2 cone technology, the sound is more transparent and faster-paced than ever, with a beautifully integrated bass response and richly detailed top-end.
The ideal speaker for acoustic music
This type of speaker has never been about ultimate bass or dynamic scale but what they do offer is exquisite mid-range tonality.
