Clearly better, with 4K UHD resolution
With over eight million pixels, Ultra HD 4K resolution brings four times more detail than Full HD, delivering sharper, life-like images and richer colours. A further advantage of UHD 4K resolution is that, because the pixels are smaller, you can sit much closer to the screen. This makes the UHD42 ideal for rooms that previously might have been too small for a projector to work at its best.
Reveal hidden detail with HDR10 and HLG
Compatible with HDR10 video, the UHD42 lets you see far more detail and texture. HDR enhances the brightest and darkest sections of scenes – letting you see detail in what was previously a solid block of colour. It also makes the rest of the colour spectrum appear more natural, giving an even greater sense of ‘being there’. The UHD42 is also compatible with HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) – the high dynamic range developed for broadcasting.
Class-leading brightness for lights-on viewing
Boasting an outstanding brightness figure of 3400 ANSI Lumens, the UHD42 not only offers bright and vivid colours but is also able to be used in many lighting conditions. Even during daylight conditions with curtains or blinds open, the Optoma produces a watchable and detailed picture – thanks to its sensational brightness.
Colour – just as it should be
The UHD42 is capable of reproducing the Rec.709 colour gamut, the international HDTV standard to guarantee accurate reproduction of cinematic colour - exactly as the director intended. Enjoy watching films and TV shows and playing games with stunning colours in any environment.
Colour Management System (CMS)
Display accurate life-like colours to best match your viewing environment. This unique feature provides you with the flexibility to fine-tune the colour settings to the Rec. 709 standard for optimal precision.
Wall Colour Adjustment for optimised colour
Although a dedicated screen is always going to give the best results, the UHD42 offers Wall Colour Adjustment for when this isn’t possible. Six options let you adjust the image to suit blackboard, light yellow, light green, light blue, pink and grey walls.
Vertical lens shift
Simplify installation with vertical lens shift, which provides a wider range of projector placement possibilities. This makes it easier to position the projector in your room and enables a wider range of screen size options.
A trio of features make the UHD42 perfect for gaming. 240Hz smooth motion gives fluid motion and reduced delay – making fast-moving games a less nerve-racking experience. Game Mode optimises the projector’s contrast to produce vivid detail and maximum contrast – perfect for spotting the danger lurking in the shadows. With input lag reduced to 15.70ms, you can be assured lightning-fast response times.
Flexible connectivity, including twin HDMI sockets
Featuring twin HDMI sockets (one compatible with HDR), you can connect a UHD Blu-ray player and video streamer. For older sources, the UHD42 also comes with a VGA input – perfect for laptops and PCs. Multi-room connectivity is enhanced by an RS232 interface, plus there’s a 12v output for syncing with an electric screen. Audio is outputted via digital optical or analogue 3.5mm sockets.
Another great feature is the handy USB power output. This is used to power USB-powered smart devices, such as the Google’s Chromecast or a Roku TV stick. Plug Chromecast, or similar, in and you’ll have easy access to smart video and TV services without the need for any other device or lengthy connection cables.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Krystian Skwarek from Pork focus hello I bought an optoma uhd 42 projector from you ... i can't recommend this projector well because it has big problems with focusing the focus. this is the second unit listed in your store and there is the same problem of focusing the image. i also have an older uhd optoma unit 300x and the image is very clear and has a very good focus of the image lens. I'm thinking about a complaint and exchange for a more expensive model without such factory defects

Rated 5 out of 5 by Marcg_uk from Amazing clarity on the picture, easy to set up I brought this to replace a 5 year old Optoma that had given up the ghost, the picture upgrade was amazing plus I could use the existing mount so that was helpful too, easy to set up, I like the vertical shift feature, I also have audio back through the optical cable into my AV Receiver as that isn't 4k compliant (yet) and that works fine, I turned the internal speak off as that's annoying and some people I read plug a 3.5mm jack in to disable it, i just turned the icons off in the menu options, I haven't played around with any colour or gamma settings as it's using HDR anyway most of the time from the PS5, I also am using the 2nd HDMI 1.4 port for anything older and switching is very easy. Also a big shout out to the online team, I ordered this at 5:45pm on a friday and it was with me the next morning.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Crispin Dry from Great value for money I project onto a 1.8 metre screen from a throw of about 2.5 metres. The UHD42 is one of the few at this price to work well at this throw and has vertical lens adjustment that allows me to get a distortion free image. It is pin sharp with good colour saturation and reproduces fast movement well. Only gripe is a little bit of noise and banding in very dark scenes - but nothing more than can be expected at this price point. One tiny software design problem - I use external speakers and if you turn off the internal speaker you get an icon on the screen that you cannot remove! Only solution is to plug in headphone cable to mute speaker. Software upgrade please!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by simon9350 from Don't read this - just go and buy one Have been umming and aghing about upgrading from my Optoma HD142X for a while. Have had a few Optoma projectors over the years and they have all been excellent. However, was thinking of defecting to Benq this time until advised by Richer Sounds in Stockport that the UHD42 was the way to go. What a projector! We can now use a projector during the daytime and the 4K is a great boon. However, the colours were all over the place - and I am colour-blind, and could still see that. So, calibrating the machine looked like a real problem - until I found my next bit of kit, the Datacolor SpyderX Elite. Easy to use, it calibrated the projector in a few minutes - and I have now calibrated every other screen in the house - it's addictive! Sold for £230 new, I found a number used once on eBay, but then purchased an open box one from Amazon for £155. Basically, I think that people use them once and then send them back to Amazon. Not that I'm recommending that, of course! Anyway, I'm keeping mine because I have another 50 screens to calibrate at work - I told you that it was addictive. Anyway, the bottom line is that the projector is now showing amazing true colour images on a 120" screen - literally as good as going to the cinema. What are you waiting for? - go and buy one. And make sure you use Richer Sounds - every time I use them I remember what a great experience they provide.

Rated 5 out of 5 by John D5 from Brilliant picture, Controls and features I have been a user of Optoma projectors for years and they have always represented excellent value, picture quality and features, this one is no exception. We have a larger Optoma 4K projector in our den, but I wanted one for our Holiday Home and this one fitted the bill. Out of the box the picture quality is very good, but with some little tweaking, it became excellent. We have a 100” pull-up screen and from a distance of around 3.5 meters this projected delivers an edge to edge quality picture. The UHD42 copes well in subdued daylight well and at night you can have dimmed lights on without any major picture quality impact. However, two ALR screens are on my shopping list when the price becomes more affordable. So, if your looking for a quality 4K projector that doesn’t break the bank, add this one to your selection list. Lastly, a quick thank you to TOM B on the Richer Sounds online support team. He could not have been more helpful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Boldbat from Easy setup. Great picture Great buy. Arrived really quickly. Straight out of the box to setup was really easy. The quality of the picture is superb, slight manual adjustment and ready to watch movies play on console. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting big screen for not much outlay...

Rated 5 out of 5 by Optben from Yep, just as i researched made the right choice Had old sony projector 720p 17 years, love the big screen. Lots if research done on the new tech these days, especially around cost vs performance. The guy at richer sounds confirmed I had good logic vs older devices or huge tvs. This does cover them all as described it would. Not laser, but not £3k. no interpolation, but not needed etc. Hrd10 but no "+".... Fine. The hdr sim it has really impressive on 1080p. Its Got all the right new gen options that coming our way. Even getting new 3d glasses for the gimmick value But why oh why deny a lens cover included, and put as an paid extra accessory... Seriously!!!
