The legend continues
Developed as a turntable that was sturdy enough to be used professionally but simple and attractive enough to use at home, the Technics SL-1210 was a hit from the beginning. Starting life in the early '70s, the SL1210 lived through many versions and is still seen by many as the reference deck for club use. The latest SL1210GR model is designed to appeal equally to DJs and audiophiles. With a wide breath of abilities this turntable truly does it all.
Coreless direct drive for the smoothest rotation
First developed for the top-spec ‘G’ model, a coreless motor is used to cut down on vibration. Development of a single-rotor, surface-facing, coreless direct-drive motor, results in the elimination of ‘cogging’ which can afflict other direct drive decks.
Rotation control developed through Blu-ray technology
Using motor control technology developed through Blu-ray players, the SL-1210GR verifies and corrects the precision of the motor for perfect pitch stability.
Heavyweight platter construction
Everything about the SL-1210GR’s construction is designed to reduce vibration and improve sound quality. The new die-cast aluminium platter features rear-bracing and is 800g heavier than its MK5 predecessor. The improved mass and rigidity improves speed stability and reduces distortion for a cleaner, purer sound.
Fully adjustable tonearm
With high precision bearings and Technics's gimbal suspension system, the S-shaped tonearm is a classic Technics design. It also offers a wide range of adjustments, including VTA (Vertical Tracking Angle), weight and bias, making it ideal for a huge range of different cartridges and even different thicknesses of slipmat. The detachable headshell makes swapping cartridges a quick and simple process.
Connect your own cables
Rather than using static cables like SL-1210s of the past, the SL-1210GR features gold-plated RCA phono terminals. These let you choose your own length and quality of cable that's worthy of a deck of this standard.
Increased pitch control
A new 'x2' button lets you double the range of the pitch control from +/- 8% to +/-16%. This extra range makes it even more flexible as a mixing tool and even handier in the studio than ever.
A reference standard for your home or studio, the Technics SL-1210GR is a true legend within its lifetime.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Victor Armani from 20 years later... brings back good ole memories I used to DJ, back in the day and reluctantly sold my MK5G's back int day to fund my family life..... fast forward 20 years my family bought me this as my 40th birthday present and my smile was from ear to ear. The 1210GR is like the 1210MK5G but better. The build quality has improved and little things like removable phono's and plug socket is a game changer. Very happy with this gift.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Caleb from Better than my dreams I wanted a 1210; since the 90s disco days; so high expectations. I was not disappointed: well made; sturdy and surprisingly a lot easier to put together than reviews suggested - do read the instructions and all will be well. On sound its a replacement for a Techinques SL B2 that couldn’t spin reliably even with a new band. So yes with good recent OMD and Joy division sounds great hooked up with Ortofon Red and NAD 3020V2s feeding a pair of B&W 607s. Am very happy

Rated 5 out of 5 by GrooveSoul from A fantastic follow up to the SL1210 series I bought this 9 days ago & I’m so pleased I did. It was a toss up between a Linn LP 12 (2nd hand) or a new Technics SL1210 GR. I opted for the Technics as I wanted something plug & play without too much tinkering. Set up was easy as per the instructions. My only gripe was that it does not come with a stylus or cartridge. Had to purchase that separately. The audio is noticeably superior to the previous SL1210 MK2 it rplaced. It still has all the quality cokponents that the MK2 had. Highly, highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Beautiful Quality Turntable,Great Sound Upgrade I decided I wanted to upgrade my turntable to hopefully do justice to my ever growing vinyl collection so after reading up a little on the spec, reliability and great reputation of the Technics turntables I took the plunge. My Akai turntable I was using was originally around the £350 price range and sounded fine so for the jump in price of the Technics 1210GR I was expecting a significant upgrade in sound quality and I am happy to report that it is it sounds fantastic along with the Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge there's definitely more Bass & more clarity more punch my records just sound more alive and even less surface noise detectable on certain albums which may be due to the upgraded cartridge. The guys in the Preston store were fantastic and reassured me it was a quality upgrade their customer service was excellent they even fitted the cartridge and set it all up for me ready to pick up at my convenience. Its a considered purchase I know but I wanted to buy a well made and reputable turntable that would last. It's a thing of beauty and I highly recommend it if you're thinking of upgrading. I nearly went for the silver version but the Black looks classy and matches my black Marantz Amplifier. Very happy with my purchase and my vinyl sounds great. Thank you Richer Sounds Preston

Rated 5 out of 5 by Stig58 from Not cheap, but worth every penny. I bought my SL1210GR as ex-display from Prestwich, along with a Goldring 1042 cartridge. I was looking for a turntable to replace my £1000-5-star-best-buy-award-winner that had got me listening more to CDs than vinyl. This one has had me listening to vinyl ever since I bought it. The CD player is now gathering dust. I wanted direct drive (no rubber band), fed from the mains (no external PSU with a plug in transformer that gets red hot), easy to set up and swap cartridges (fed up of unscrewing the arm and playing with spacers), all leads removable (no worries) and built like a T34 (needs to see me out). I looked at the PLX1000 but it is built to a price so decided on the SL1210GR (can't afford a 1200G and don't like silver). I have since bought a couple of Jelco asimuth adjustable head shells. These are easier to adjust than the supplied headshell which has a release screw so small I thought it was a mark in the headshell casting and in mine, at least, was so tight I couldn't budge it. I fitted the 1042 and a Dynavector DV20XH2 to the Jelcos and then set everything up as close to perfect as I could, verifying the setup with the HFN test record. Then I played all my favourite 'test' records. There is all the sound detail I'd expect at this price (soundstage, width, imaging etc etc) but without the over-analytical thin sounding efforts of my previous turntable. The bass may be slightly less well defined but at least it sounds (and feels) like bass should. I can hear everything I could with the 5* deck but with a fuller and warmer sound. To coin a phrase, this turntable has soul. The motor/electrical supply is totally silent - no hum or rumble. I am very happy with this turntable. This is a keeper !

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Superb sound and build quality Great upgrade from my entry level deck. Wanted something that was great quality but didn't need delicate handling... This is it. Notice more base than the other deck could manage even though using the same 2m red ortofon. Waiting for a blue for a further slight upgrade. Well pleased. Thanks to the guys in Nottingham as usual.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Manish from The Classic Enhanced I had the original Technics 1210s growing up as a pair with a mixer to DJ with, they are the most solid turntables I have ever used and I regretted selling them over 15 years ago! I still had all my vinyl as I couldn't bare to part with them, so when I saw the brand new and enhanced Technics 1210 available at Richer Sounds I knew I had to buy one. I have not regretted it since! The quality and build is just as good if not better, the sound quality is amazing. I have used Cambridge Audio Phono leads I purchased from Richer Sounds too, which helps give a better sound. The Technics did have a basic phono lead included but it wasnt as good as the Cambridge Audio leads. The 1210 doesnt come with a cartridge and stylus, so you will need to buy one. I actually still have my old Ortofon Scratch concords stylus from my DJ days, so have used them for now. I want to get a more classic look so plan to do upgrade those at some point. If you are looking for a single turntable or a pair to DJ with, I would 100% say go for the Technics 1210s or 1200s (silver), I'm so happy with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MikeDS from SL1210GR : Superb sound & first class engineering I spent months researching a new turntable and kept coming back to the Technics SL1200GR/1210GR again and again. Now that it's proudly sitting on the AV bench it's so obviously the perfect choice. I took a good time to set up the turntable, levelling the using a spirit level and fine tuning cartridge alignment using a Bearwald protractor. I also set the tracking force using digital scales - however, the Technics arm is very accurate in this respect. From the moment the box was opened, the quality of the design and engineering that has gone into the SL1210GR was obvious. This is a seriously solid, supremely engineered turntable. Everything feels absolutely perfect. I tried a few different cartridges initially. They all sounded good, but what struck me from the outset was that the SL1210GR is very neutral and transparent, as it immediately revealed the sonic differences and nuances between the different cartridges. For the moment I have settled on an AT120EB, but it's obvious that upgrades could be well rewarded in this area. Once everything set up, we settled down listen to some music. The hours drifted by as LP after LP and single after single spinned away. What's truly breathtaking is the detail, the separation between instruments and, most of all, the unerring, solid, perfect timing; not a hint of variation or instability - this turntable simply lets you enjoy the music without fuss or fluster and gets your feet tapping every time. I can't find anything else that comes near for up to this price. The SL1210GR, for me, represents the most enjoyable vinyl value. We're now working our way through our collection of LP's and singles and the Technics has most definitely encouraged this and the purchase of additional used and new LP's too. New 180 gram pressings sound truly breathtaking and I'm eagerly awaiting the release of Sophie Ellis Bextor's new Orchestral Greatest Hits on Double LP! I don't think that I can say any fairer than that. Highly recommended to anyone interested in accurate, stable, fuss free and, most importantly, highly enjoyable vinyl replay. Thank you too to the staff at Richer Sounds in Lichfield. Excellent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by pigr from A thing of overpriced beauty A modern variation on an old classic certainly, but is it an improvement? In a word, yes. The fact that the power lead and phono jacks are no longer hard wired in is an excellent innovation. The sound is is massively improved especially the bass. The fact that the pitch shifter has been changed means no more getting stuck around the annoying green light in the middle as it has been done away with altogether. Criticisms? There's no need for the reset button to be quite so close to the pitch fader and I think it should be £200 cheaper. That said the pros outweigh the cons and i think I will probably buy another one!
