A step-up in sound
Built for sound above all else, the Project T1 SB features levels of engineering excellence that you might not expect at this price. With a specification that includes a CNC machined plinth with isolation feet, a glass platter, one-piece tonearm and a quality Ortofon cartridge, the T1 Phono SB is made to class-leading standards.
Engineered for sound
Unlike many other turntables around this price, the Pro-Ject T1 Phono SB has all the elements of a proper hi-fi turntable - just at a lower price. Rather than plastic, the CNC machined plinth is made from MDF. This gives lower resonance for reduced distortion. Mounted to the plinth is a steel/brass bearing that’s the same as the award-winning Essential III and, combined with the new heavy glass platter, provides smooth and stable running for perfect pitch.
Speed Box control
Unlike the standard version of the T1, this SB version features electronic speed change. Rather than having to lift the platter and physically change the belt to another pulley, the speed is changed at the touch of a button. If you regular switch between 33 and 45rpm records, this feature proves to be a great convenience and time saver.
Built-in phonostage
Another advantage with the SB version of the T1 turntable is a built-in phonostage (also known as a phono pre-amp). This means you can wire the deck up to any hi-fi system with an ‘AUX’ input. Alternatively, the T1 Phono SB can still be wired into a phono input, just as with the standard T1.
Single piece aluminium tonearm
Continuing its hi-fi credentials, the Pro-Ject T1 SB is supplied with a good quality tonearm. Made from a single piece of aluminium, it's both light and rigid. The more rigid the more precisely it tracks, making listening to your records a more involving experience. For ease of use the tracking forces are preset and ready to go.
Ortofon OM5E cartridge supplied
Part of the standard package includes a pre-fitted Ortofon OM5E cartridge. Highly regarded, this quality budget cartridge gives a smooth, detailed sound that’s at home with all types of music. As part of the Optimum Match (OM) range, the stylus is upgradable to 10, 20, 30 and 40 models, giving plenty of scope for future upgrading.
Choice of finishes
The simple, elegant styling gives the T1 SB a sleek appearance. Available in black, white or walnut, there’s a colour to suit you. All models come with a removable dust lid.

My First Turntable In Over 30 years
I've had this for a few days now and am really pleased with it. It's simple, does what it needs to do and sounds great.
Although this is a minimalist-type turntable with very few features, it has a built-in phono stage, which can be switched to a line output if needed, and a switch (speed box) to change the speed from 33 to 45. these two features are what the Phono and SB mean in the name, differentiating this unit from the T1 and T1 BT variants.
To be honest, I was a bit annoyed at first by the sound quality coming from the turntable. It turns out that the unit didn't come fully set up, as the enclosed instructions suggested, and that the cartridge body of the factory-fitted Ortofon OM5e was dragging on the record surface. With a bit of help from Google/Reddit, etc., I found out that the counterbalance wasn't correctly positioned and that there was too much weight on the stylus cantilever. With no stylus scales, a bit of trial and error helped me to resolve the problem, and not only did the scraping noise go away, but the sound completely came to life - it's amazing for the money. I looked online, and this is quite a regular occurrence, apparently, so please check this before you start playing your expensive vinyl, at least visually, if nothing else. I also found that swapping out the supplied felt mat for something slightly thicker (3mm) made a huge difference in levelling the angle of the tonearm and improved the "attack" angle of the stylus, improving the sound - but that could just be me.
I got the white variant and think it is stunning to look at. Here's hoping for may hours of listening pleasure.

Great service as usual from the Newcastle team. Prompt delivery. Sounds great through a pair of Sonos Era 100 (line in adapter required from Sonos). Purchase prompted by daughter who bought a Taylor Swift vinyl album. Now re-discovering my old classics from the attic!

Excellent Customer Service
Phoned my local shop to check availability of this before making the journey. The member of staff I spoke to advised they were out of stock in store but he could order from the warehouse to be delivered to me a few days later - even better, it arrived the following morning which was very unexpected. He was also full of very helpful insights and answered a few questions I had about the turntable.
The item itself is a Christmas present, so has not been used yet, however it looks and feels fantastic and should be an excellent start to my record collection.
Overall an excellent first time experience, which will lead me to buy many more items from this store.
