Wharfedale Evo 4.4 (Walnut)
Speakers Per Pair
£1,199
”Wharfedale's Evo speakers remain unbeaten.” ’What Hi-Fi?’ 2022 award-winner.
Ideal for front AV speakers or stereo sound in a larger room
Standing well over 1 metre tall, the EVO 4.4 speakers suit medium-sized to larger rooms. They can either be used as they are, in stereo, or as part of an EVO AV speaker system, with matching centre and rear speakers available.
High technology from a heritage brand
Wharfedale are one of the UK’s best-known and widely respected speaker brands. The EVO 4.4 pays homage to Wharfedale’s rich heritage, without being shackled by it. Grown out of the extensive research and development that went into the reference ELYSIAN range, the EVO 4.4 has a technical spec well above most of its rivals. With its Air Motion Transformer tweeter, soft dome mid-range unit, twin Kevlar bass cones and SLPP bass reflex system, the EVO 4.4’s spec matches many speakers costing twice the price. Let alone its own.
Air Motion Transformer tweeter for super-detailed treble
The highly advanced AMT (Air Motion Transformer) tweeter delivers class-leading detail and precision through its high-tech design. By squeezing the air between sound plates, the EVO 4.4 offers a highly consistent and precise top end that’s fast to respond to all types of music – making your favourite tunes sound more believable than ever.
Dedicated mid-range unit delivers sumptuous vocals
Usually found only on speakers costing in excess of four times the EVO 4.4’s price, the dedicated, soft dome mid-range brings vocals to life. With a top quality drive unit, dedicated to the mid-range, vocal reproduction is more accurate than ever with every breath (sometimes literally in some recordings) clearly defined. Other instruments in the mid-range, such as guitars, also benefit through higher resolution.
Powerful bass response
With twin, woven Kevlar bass cones, the EVO 4.4s certainly don’t lag when it comes to bottom end. Combined with a large cabinet, the drivers shift plenty of air, meaning you hear the deepest notes from your favourite movie soundtracks and music. Downwards firing bass ports integrate better with your room and also make the speakers easier to position as they don’t have to be quite so far away from the rear wall.
Sleek cabinets that sound as good as they look
Available in black, walnut and white finishes, the curved cabinet blends smoothly into your room. More than just enhancing the looks, however, those sensuous curves help enhance the sound quality, too. Curved sides help break internal standing waves for lower distortion. Internal bracing and composite damping also help in reducing distortion and in keeping the sound as smooth and accurate as possible.
Hear these award-winners for yourself and be prepared to hear a whole new layer of music.

Very happy.
5 stars for the sound presentation
4 stars as the spikes don't pierce my carpet, had to make small holes to contact the concrete but it's worth the difference it makes.
Previous speakers were Tannoy XT8
Using a Marantz SR8012 with existing Tannoy XT centre and surrounds , I have felt no need to recalibrate audyssey as the Evo's are just excellent.
I always remove the provided links and use my own jumper cables for a better performance
I've read that the Evo's are laid back... I disagree :)
Stunning performance all round, toe-tapping, vibrant, punchy and weighty when required and with very good power handling at max volume from a 140 watts amp.
Distance from front wall needs 36 cm's minimum in my room.
I've added some photo's
No regrets with buying the Evo's, I've owned many speakers in my time, including the Wharfedale 310's (absolutely brilliant speakers)
The Evo's are best speaker I've ever owned to date.

Absolutely stunning speakers
They look like a piece of art. And they sound amazing, and get better the more you use them. They have plenty of bass and treble to match more expensive speakers. They can be placed much near to walls than most speakers & will be able to make any HI FI sound much more expensive. I am playing a lot of old albums and the clarity is incredible I am hearing details in my music I have never heard before, If you are looking for what speakers to buy, look no further. I recommend these speakers whole heartedly.

Evo 4.4 get better over time
The Wharfedale Evo 4.4’s were a complete change for me, being a long time KEF customer. Out of the box they sounded awful, being muddy and shrill.
After 2-3hrs their sound changed significantly, luckily for the better.
The highs began to warm and the lows started to find control.
It’s been 48hrs of constant playback now and I must say they are a hidden gem. They now exhibit control, poise and warmth in equal measure.
Not only do the Evo 4.4’s look gorgeous but they sound lovely too. The bass port is down firing into the black plinth thus allowing positioning close to a wall if preferred.
The build quality is extremely good considering their price and the attention to detail upon unpacking was exemplary. White gloves and cotton bags for each speaker, as well as plastic coverings and plenty of padding for transit.
I am extremely happy with the decision to try the Evo’s and would recommend them to others looking for a warm presentation.

Quality sound and great looks
Had for over a week now connected to my cambridge audio CXA60 amp using Van Damme HIFI Series Studio Grade Speaker Cable 2 X 6.0mm with jumpers made with the same cable and I must say the Bass is awesome warm and crisp with the Bass reflex downward port compared to my Q Acoustics 3050 which was a bit boomy certainly no lack of bass as one review has said the mid range and treble so clear and well balanced and great looking.
highly recommend very pleased with my purchased.
Would like to say thankyou to Chriss for all the help from Richer sounds Milton Keynes.

Simply incredible for the price point!
I simply cannot believe the price of these speakers - what are Wharfedale thinking!? Everything about these speakers is unbelievable... The sound, the quality, the finish, everything! They do not appear to be fussy about positioning and fill up my (large) room with ease. 100% recommended - do not hesitate.

Exceptional
I purchased these back in June 2020 as a replacement for my Tanoy DC6T's. I have enjoyed them for 3 months now. I use them every day to listen to my TV (At normal volume) and I love the performance when playing my music collection. They are powered by my Marantz Pearl-Lite amplifier which is now 8 years old and the sound quality is exceptional. 10/10
