Audiolab 7000CDT (Black)
CD Transport
£549
Maximise you CD collection’s sound quality and enjoy USB file playback, too, with the versatile Audiolab 7000CDT CD transport.
Transport only, for your choice of DAC or digital amp
Just as with Audiolab’s 6000 and 9000 CDT models, the 7000CDT is a transport only, meaning it comes without a built-in DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor). This not only saves you money but also gives you the freedom to choose your own DAC; or partner the CD transport with a digital amp, such as the matching Audiolab 7000A.
USB file playback
More than just a CD transport, the 7000CDT also double as a USB media device interface. Simply connect your USB media player to the USB-A connection at the back and playback/control music files in WAV, AAC, WMA and MP3 formats. Thanks to the full colour display, you’ll also be able to easily locate and track your stored music.
Improved transport mechanism
The 7000CDT uses an enhanced CD mechanism with a draw, rather than slot-loaded mechanism. The transport is mounted within its own, electromagnetically shielded enclosure and has its own power supply – features that help reduce interference for a clearer, more detailed sound.
Read-ahead buffer plays ‘difficult’ CDs
Using a read-ahead digital buffer, it’s also more tolerant of imperfect discs that might be scratched or dirty, letting you play your most loved discs that other players won’t.
Choose the output that’s best for you
Featuring both optical and coaxial digital outputs, the 7000CDT works with almost all DACs and digital amps.
Smooth, harmonious style
Available in black or silver, the 7000CDT makes the perfect partner for the 7000A amplifier. The 7000-series features a distinctive, full colour display. The interactive screen displays a wide range of interactive info. Choose between system setting, format, folder, track details or other information. Or, for the least distraction, simply turn the display off.
Upgrade your CD and USB file playback quality, with the Audiolab 7000CDT.

This CD transport is awesome
This Audiolab 7000CDT is an upgrade in my main system, replacing a 6000CDT, which moves to my study’s system. The 7000CDT feeds an M-DAC which feeds a Yamaha/Roksan/Monitor Audio system. The 6000CDT was an amazing improvement, but the 7000CDT is better again. I did A/B testing with a whole variety of music, and the added clarity and space is awesome. If you like jazz it's most noticeable on cymbals or double bass, which feel like they are in the room, and you could reach out and touch the instruments. But that opening up of the soundstage adds to every style of music I tried. The 7000CDT is fantastic value. Whatever DAC you’ve got it will surprise you with how much extra it gives you. The build quality is great. The new drawer mechanism is good but not great - I’d prefer a design that allows you to place and remove the CD just using the edges, but this is a minor quibble. The new colour display gives more information and is configurable. The 7000CDT is fantastic value. Whatever DAC you’ve got it will surprise you with how much extra it gives you. I’d love to test it against transports at 3 times the price. My guess is it will match them.
And by the way, the guys at Richer Holborn were great, and delivery was fast.

The CD has still got it.
The Audiolab 7000A amplifier I bought from Richer Sounds in June was such a success that I ordered the 7000CDT a couple of weeks later. Optical cable from CD to amp, bi-amping (with TAG McLaren 60P) a pair of B&W CDM1SEs. How’s it been? Well . . .
Obviously it’s a perfect visual match, and if you like black boxes with a reasonably-sized display then you’ll be happy. Also comes in silver if that’s your thing.
The audible improvement is real. I’ve been digging through the CD racks and playing stuff I haven’t touched for years, as well as lots of favourites. There’s real depth, width, even height to the soundstage. If you like quieter music and acoustic instruments you’ll love the space and delicacy. If you’re the noisier type, like me, the 7000CDT will let you pinpoint sounds you may have missed before, despite everything else going on, because the loudest guitars, drums, vocals etc are so clearly fixed in place. I heard a new bass note in a song I’ve been listening to for 25 years which affected the whole tone of the verse. No excuse for cloth-earedness any more. Works for 50s jazz, 90s alt-rock, Wu-Tang-adjacent rap, pretty much the whole kit and caboodle.
Downsides? Sibilant vocals can set your teeth on edge. The distorted voices of the Beastie Boys on Ill Communication sound a bit horrible, which is a shame because the rest sounds great. In terms of the hardware, the display may be a bit limited, and the animation is fairly mediocre. Using one remote for two devices takes some getting used to - you need to click between amp and CD before sending the necessary signal. I’m still struggling after a couple of weeks, but then I’m not very bright. The drawer feels flimsier than I’d like, and I can’t remove discs by their edge. I haven’t yet used the USB HDD input, but with it being hidden round the back I can see it being a bit of a nuisance to connect to.
That aside, I’m loving it. My speakers are loving it, and my CDs are loving it. CD sellers on eBay are probably loving it too. “Perfect sound forever”? Would recommend!

Fantastic CD Transport
Bought today from Richer in Belfast. Great service and helpful staff despite my indecision. It was a choice between either the Audiolab 7000CDT, 6000CDT or Cambridge Audio CXC. I've had Audiolab products before and decided to buy the 7000CDT. It looks great, is well finished and sounds superb using a Musical Fidelity MX DAC. I would definitely recommend this CD Transport with a good DAC.
