Delivering ‘clean’ power to your amp, the Audiolab DC Blocker reduces transformer noise, letting you hear more of the music and less of the electronics.

Direct Current Blocker – banish the hum
DC (Direct Current) signals within the mains current may be small but can noticeably affect sound quality. As the DC current enters a toroidal power transfer it becomes saturated, reducing the transformer’s efficiency and causing audible vibration. Connecting the DC Blocker reduces the mechanical hum and restores the mechanical efficiency – letting you concentrate on the music and not the background noise.

Mains conditioner and RF filter
As well as DC removal, the DC Block also provides additional mains conditioning and RF filtering. These help reduce background noise further still, as noise from other components on the mains system (such as a fridge or dimmer switch switching on and off) is effectively filtered out.

Improves the entire system
With a quieter mains signal being feed to your amplifier, the whole system benefits. A quieter amp means less distortion relayed to other components, helping reduce distortion and enhance music dynamics.

Easy to connect
No special installation or even additional mains sockets are required to fit the DC Blocker to your system. Simply plug into your amp’s IEC power socket and then connect to the mains socket vacated by the amp’s power cable.

Styled to match your system
With its clean, crisp lines, the DC Block looks every bit as sleek as you’d expect from the Audiolab brand. Available in black or silver, the DC Block perfectly matches Audiolab’s other products and also blends well with components from other brands.

Hear the music you’ve been missing, with the Audiolab DC Blocker.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for the money I bought this on the strength of a few reviews, as l thought for the money it was worth a punt. Wow what can l say plugged into my Audiolab 8000p, more solid imagery, more background silence, it sounds like a veil has been taken away from the system, as l said for the money unbelievable, will be interesting to try more on different components of the system

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great hum reduction Bought it to reduce the hum I was hearing through speaker, having ruled out an earth loop issue. Hum was mostly reduced by applying it to the pre amp, but most sound quality improvement was applying it to the dac, but didn’t impact hum.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works... I have an Audiolab 8200CDQ preamp/cd player and a pair of monobloc amps. The amps occasionally make that 50hz mains hum, sometimes badly and very occasionally not at all but always together. So there was the clue it might be a mains issue. DC blocks have always been expensive but for this price I was willing to give it a go. More of a diagnostic really. Plugging the unit in line with one of the amps completely stopped it humming while the unfiltered one carried on so 1) It was a DC offset problem causing the hum and 2) It fixed it. Great. Will get a second one for the other amp. (these are 250 watts each hence needing two). Now, I was another of those sceptics who thought that mains power is just mains power and couldn’t possibly have any effect on the sound quality but having seen other reviews on alleged sound improvement I then did an A/B comparison with the filter in/out on the CD player/preamp. Wow, the filtered mains definitely gave an obvious improved clarity. It made the bass clearer, tighter which in turn gave clearer vocals. Get one! (but only if you have a DC offset mains problem)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Audiolab DC Blocker Bought this after reading good reviews. The slight buzz from my old 8000P power amp has been removed and the DC Blocker does seem to have made the background quieter. It drops a star though as the domestic appliance still makes itself heard as it switches on/off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent solution to humming power supplies My Audiolab 8200X7 power amplifier (and many other amplifiers I have owned) hums quite a lot. This is common with the toroidal power supplies in these units. I'd assumed this was bad manufacturing but stumbled across this product. It completely irradiated the transformer hum. I am sure the sound is a bit cleaner too (although this could just be the absence of the hum). Defo worth trying if you have this problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Upgrade For £99. I bought this to power my Prima Luna tube amp just because I like tweaking. I wasn’t expecting much, but how I was so wrong. More detail, clarity, and depth. A good upgrade for little money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mains conditioner sceptic won over. Okay I'll begin with the caveat that I am generally of the opinion that amplifiers and other hifi don't really care about getting their electrons conditioned, as long as they are coming at the right voltage and current! HOWEVER, I thought I'd take a punt on this as it's 'only' £99 and similar products often cost many £hundreds, if not £thousands. Also, and this is the main reason for my purchase, I have been getting an annoying whistley type interference through the speakers that I just can't seem to banish, no matter how many things I try disconnecting or connecting in a different way. Once the DC block arrived, I connected it to my Moon headphone amp-pre amp. I know its suggested main use is for power amps, but as I do 95% of my listening through headphones I thought I'd try it here first. So firstly, the mains interference is gone ! This is unequivocal. Nothing else changed in my system except for inserting the Audiolab and the whistles are gone. You know, it's worth the £99 for that alone. The next bit goes against my scepticism and I am assuming it's confirmation bias or something... but I could swear the sound of all my sources through the headphone amp has gained lower registers and a solidity it did not possess before. No I have not done an A/B comparison yet; I don't like messing about unplugging and plugging amps in repeatedly over a short time, so I will have to devise a relatively quick way to test what I think I am hearing. But all I can say for now is that to my ears/brain, my £1400 amp has just had its sound quality upgraded significantly by a featureless grey £100 metal box. Go figure. Oh and it really is featureless looking; no lights or controls just a metal box with power in and out. My advice, in summary is to try this, especially if you have mains hum/interference issues, with the added bonus that you may, like me, find a sound quality improvement as well. What's not to like about that for 100 squid? Heck I may just buy another one soon for other amps in the house...
